President’s Message

Prof. Kate Drummond

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

As President of the Asian Australasian Society of Neurological Surgeons (AASNS), I am honored to lead our society in advancing neurosurgical care across our diverse region. Since its establishment in 1964, AASNS has been dedicated to facilitating personal associations among neurosurgeons in Asia and Australasia, developing training programs, and fostering research in neurological surgery.

Our society represents 60% of the world’s neurosurgeons, serving a population that constitutes 60% of the global total. This vast and varied region includes prosperous nations with adequate neurosurgical workforces, as well as populous low- and middle-income countries with limited access to specialized care. AASNS is committed to bridging these gaps through advocacy and education, providing professional development opportunities, especially for training and young neurosurgeons.

In 2023, we reinvigorated our educational activities, organizing successful in-person seminars in Bangkok, Kathmandu, and Hanoi, alongside webinars on spinal surgery topics. These events, coordinated by our dedicated Education Committee, have been instrumental in sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration. We look forward to our biennial Congress in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, from November 7-10, 2024, which will further strengthen our professional bonds and collective expertise.

It is a privilege to serve as the first woman President of AASNS, and I am inspired by the progress we have made together. I extend my deepest gratitude to our Administrative Council and member societies for their unwavering support and dedication. Together, we will continue to advance neurosurgical care, education, and research throughout Asia and Australasia.

Sincerely,
