Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is a great honour to serve as President of the Asian Australasian Society of Neurological Surgeons (AASNS). I am privileged to lead our Society as we continue to advance neurosurgical care, education, research, and collaboration across one of the world’s most diverse and dynamic regions.

The AASNS serves as a vital neurosurgical community spanning Asia, Australasia, and the Middle East. By fostering the exchange of knowledge, supporting one another, and learning across geographical and cultural boundaries, we strengthen not only our profession but also the quality, accessibility, and impact of the care we provide to our patients.

While we are home to extraordinary clinical expertise and innovation, many countries continue to face significant challenges, including delayed referrals, unequal access to specialist services, limited rehabilitation, and workforce shortages. Addressing these gaps will require coordinated regional advocacy, strategic partnerships, and sustainable capacity building.

AASNS is committed to support the next generation of neurosurgeons through structured education, mentorship and training opportunities. We will continue to champion greater participation and leadership for women in neurosurgery while creating pathways that enable young surgeons to learn from international best practices and translate those experiences into meaningful improvements within their own healthcare systems. Some of our main focus in this tenure will be to organise young neurosurgeons institutional exchange programmes, educational platforms in form of webinars and training through workshops and CMEs.

In the years ahead, we will also strengthen our focus on developing regional trauma systems, improving pre-hospital emergency care, promoting neurorehabilitation, and advocating for road safety initiatives. I strove to collaboratively expand opportunities for innovative clinical research, embrace emerging technologies such as artificial Intelligence, and establish a dedicated Spine committee to further enhance patient care across our region.

With steadfast dedication, collective vision and a deep commitment to meaningful progress, I aspire to contribute to the goals outlined above and help bring them to successful realisation in Wellington, New Zealand in 2028.

I look forward to working closely with the administrative council, members of the society and colleagues across the region to translate these shared aspirations into impactful and enduring achievements.
